What happens in a counselling session?
Sessions are generally 50 minutes long. It is usually best to meet weekly, but other arrangements are possible. In a session we will talk about whatever you want to talk about - sessions are driven by your priorities. My orientation is towards building on your strengths, while not shying away from the things that cause pain.
How much does it cost?
I charge on a sliding scale depending on your income. For those earning $60,00 and below, sessions cost $60. For those earning $60-90,000, sessions cost $80. Those earning over $90,000 pay the full fee of $100 per session. I don't ask you to disclose your income - these are guidelines for us to agree on an amount. If cost is a barrier, call me and lets talk about it. If you are on a low income, you may be eligible for funding from WINZ to attend couselling. To access this, your need to have a form signed by your GP, and by your counsellor. Contact WINZ for more information, or call and talk to me.
The Talkingworks site has some really useful information on sources of free or subsidised counselling. Most of these sources will fund a limited number of sessions, and some require reports on the work.
